Privacy policy
Ollie is a Chrome extension that records web pages and helps you edit those recordings into videos, plus the website at useollie.app. It’s made by one person, Victor Grycuk, in Argentina. Questions or requests: [email protected].
The short version: your recordings stay on your computer. Something leaves your computer only when you join the waitlist, or when you choose to use AI polish or crisp rendering. We don’t sell data, and we don’t use it for advertising.
The website (useollie.app)
Analytics. We use PostHog to understand how people use the site: pages viewed, buttons clicked, whether the comparison video was watched or dragged, where visitors came from (the referring site and campaign tags in the link), and your browser, device and approximate location (country or city), worked out from your IP address. PostHog runs without cookies on this site, so it doesn’t recognise you across visits.
Hosting. The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard request data (such as IP address and browser) to deliver the page and protect it from abuse.
Waitlist. If you request an invite, we store your email address, your answer to “What would you record first?” if you gave one, the campaign tag of the link you came from, and the anonymous analytics ID of your visit, so we can see which visits led to a signup. We use your email only to send you an invite code and updates about the beta. To be removed, email us and we’ll delete your entry.
The Chrome extension
Recordings stay on your computer. When you record, Ollie saves in your browser’s local storage:
- the video of the tab;
- a log of what happened while recording: clicks, scrolling, pointer position and shape, and keyboard shortcuts. The text you type is not recorded, only that typing happened;
- a recording of the page’s structure (its HTML and changes to it), used to re-render zooms sharply. Password fields are masked.
Deleting a recording in Ollie deletes all of this. Uninstalling the extension deletes all your recordings.
AI polish (optional). When you click “Polish my video”, Ollie sends our server the event log, still frames taken from the recording, and the goal and note you wrote. Our server sends them to Anthropic’s Claude model, which suggests edits. Anthropic processes this under its commercial terms, which don’t allow it to train its models on this data. We keep a record of each polish (your note, the moments the AI looked at, and the edits it suggested, but not the frames) to improve the results. Email us to have yours deleted.
Crisp rendering (optional). When you ask for a crisp render, Ollie uploads the page-structure recording to our server, which replays it in a browser to render a sharper video. During the replay, that browser loads the page’s images, fonts and styles from their original addresses.
Who processes data for us
- Cloudflare: hosts the website.
- Fly.io: hosts our server and the waitlist database (São Paulo region).
- PostHog: analytics (United States).
- Anthropic: AI polish, only when you use it.
Data may be processed outside your country, including in the United States and Brazil.
Limited use
Data collected through the extension is used only to provide and improve Ollie’s features. We don’t sell it, transfer it for advertising, use it to decide creditworthiness, or let anyone read it except as needed to provide the service, for security, or to comply with the law. This complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Your rights
You can ask what data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to its use, by emailing [email protected]. We’ll answer within 30 days. If you’re in Argentina, you can also contact the Agencia de Acceso a la Información Pública, which enforces Law 25.326 on personal data. If you’re in the EU or UK, you can contact your local data protection authority.
Children
Ollie isn’t meant for children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use data you’ve already given us, we’ll email the people on the waitlist.
